This class will be specifically about editing lab scans, not teaching every feature inside Lightroom.
What students will learn
- Lightroom Desktop versus Lightroom Classic
- How to import and organize film scans
- How to correct exposure without destroying the film look
- White balance and color correction
- Highlights, shadows, whites, and blacks
- Tone curves
- HSL and basic color grading
- Cropping and straightening
- Removing dust spots
- Adding or controlling grain
- Sharpening film scans
- Export settings for Instagram, websites, and printing
- How to create and save a simple preset
- How to avoid overediting film
Workshop flow
First 20 minutes: Importing, organizing, and understanding file types
Next 40 minutes: Exposure, white balance, and tonal adjustments
Next 35 minutes: Color correction, curves, and HSL
Next 15 minutes: Dust removal, sharpening, and grain
Final 10 minutes: Export settings and questions

Student should bring
- Laptop and charger
- Lightroom installed and logged in
- Five to ten film scans they would like to edit
- Optional mouse or trackpad
Important positioning
Teach students how to finish a film scan rather than completely change it. The course should emphasize preserving grain, natural skin tones, highlight detail, and the character of the film stock.
